Artist Talk for Reconstruct: Thursday, March 21st from 6-8pm, featuring Philadelphia based artists Benjamin F. Weaver and Mike Tanis.
Playing on our perception of three dimensional forms, Weaver and Tanis encourage viewers to rethink the convention of the “beginning and end.” Weaver’s acrylic works create a structural entanglement as his use of color and placement drives the eye through abstracted shapes, creating and disproving paths and connections. In Weaver’s words, “This duality of interacting visual opposites is what drives this series of work.” Tanis’ sculptural works have a fluidity encouraged by their unsolvable shapes and intertwining paths. Tanis works with kirigami (or “cut paper”) at University of Pennsylvania to create creative solutions in scientific research. His sculptural works split the line between what occurs organically in nature and man-made innovative uses of space and motion.
