Asian Arts Initiative presents “Roopbaan Reimagined – A Dragqueen from the Future”
Performance by Ali Asgar
Co-presented with Qunify
Sunday, November 3, 2-4pm

Transdisciplinary artist and cultural producer Ali Asgar investigates traditional South Asian gender performativity through the popular Bengali folktale, Roopbaan. An iconic symbol of ambigiuous desire, the titular heroine Roopbaan has been reclaimed to express marginal queer experiences of the Bangladeshi LGBTQ community. Through their new performance installation project, Asgar has reimagined Roopbaan as a futuristic drag queen to create a spectacle at the intersection of gender, desire and fantasy.

*Sliding scale: $10-30, tickets will be available at the door, no one turned away for lack of funds.

Asian Arts Initiative is designed as a mobility accessible facility, with access to all public floors and spaces, and seating accommodations for programmed events. Both non-gendered and individually isolating restrooms are available on each floor, all equipped with changing stations.
