Scribe Video Center’s Street Movies! — made possible with support from PECO and The City of Philadelphia’s Performances in Public Spaces Program, managed by the Office of Arts Culture and Creative Economy — returns this August for its 21st season with nine family-friendly events in neighborhoods across Philadelphia. The traveling series will feature a range of short films, from internationally recognized award-winning fiction, documentary, and animation to local community- and youth-produced works.

Eight of August’s nine programs will feature live performances by some of our region’s most talented artists: Philadelphia’s first Poet Laureate Sonia Sanchez, poet and recording artistUrsula Rucker, experimental music project Moor Mother by Camae Ayewa, bomba and plena group Los Bomberos De La Calle, Chinese dance studio L&M Dance Studio, singer and sound artist Jacqueline Constance, award-winning lyricist and author Lyrispect, and dance group Cambodian American Girls Empowering (CAGE). Live performances start at 8:00PM with the screenings starting when the sun goes down at 8:30PM.

This year we’re excited to include an evening of all children’s programming for the first time at Mifflin Square on August 22nd!

Street Movies! celebrates the cultural histories of our neighborhoods while examining and touching on pressing issues often overlooked in mainstream media.

A Few Film Highlights Include:

The Black 14: Wyoming Football 1969 dir. Darius Clark Monroe, EP. Spike Lee
