Featuring: Carole Loeffler
Spillway is pleased to present a solo exhibition of sculptural works by Philadelphia-based artist Carole Loeffler.
“The work in the exhibition Brass Tacks has been produced in the past six months and is a departure from my previous, primarily abstract and monochromatic red work. These text and found object based sculptural works are a reaction to the post-election, toxic political environment that is enveloping the United States and the world. They are an attempt for me to personally process what it means to be a woman, be married to a family of immigrants and try to raise kind, thoughtful children in a world that feels upside down and inside out. I’ve been thinking not only of my role in society but am trying to give a voice to the experiences my mother, father, relatives and friends have had, and may continue to have, in their everyday lives. It will be O.K., it will get better, it’s fine. And if not, if we are squashed, silenced, unseen, not listened to, laden with problems, given unattainable expectations, diminished and feel like a target and a sitting duck, we will be each others sanctuary and SEE each other.”
