In this workshop we’ll carefully design and draw our image to create a structure to allow for expressive and spontaneous watercolor painting. We’ll touch upon various methods of watercolor, including traditionally translucent, ala prima, and varying opacities. With a sense of enthusiasm and risk-taking, we’ll explore the essence of watercolor—the relationship of water to pigment—and alter that relationship in different ways for varying effects. Along the way we’ll learn to forget all the rules about watercolor painting including the ones in this class, while students find their own voice and point of view in their work.
This workshop will include demonstrations, presentations, exercises, painting and more painting, feedback, critiques, music and fun, all to create an environment that anything is possible and everything goes.
