When Laury Mayer was a toddler in Korea, she was riding on her father’s back when he was killed by a landmine. Mayer lost several fingers, among other injuries, and after spending time recuperating in a MASH unit, was adopted by a Bucks County family.
Thirty years later, the Germantown resident and Moore College grad went back to Korea. What resulted is a show decades and thousands of miles in the making—“Strangers: Portraits by Laury Mayer”—which will debut at Philadelphia’s Metropolitan Gallery 250, a non-profit gallery run by Metropolitan Bakery, on September 15, 2017. A reception and meet-and-greet with the artist is free and open to the public.
