Discussion led by Shelly Reuben
During the years before she was published, Shelly Reuben worked at various advertising agencies in New York City and experienced first-hand the excitement and drama of life as it is portrayed in The Best of Everything. In this romantic movie, three ambitious women of 1950s Manhattan contend with romantic disappointments, office politics, and the threat that their dreams for a fulfilling career will be cut short by marriage, children, and inertia. Inspired by Mac Conner’s illustrations, this screening and talk will draw comparisons between Conner’s imagery of women and the lifestyle, fashion, and careers of women. Free.
