The Soul of A Young Girl, Art Exhibit at Old City Jewish Art Center, To Benefit Local Victims of Human Trafficking


Old City Jewish Art Center in Old City Philadelphia invites you to its November art exhibition entitled The Soul of A Young Girl. Curated and organized by Valetta, founder of Regional Center for Women in the Arts and InLiquid Artist member Linda Dubin Garfield, founder of smART business consulting, this exhibit will benefit victims of human trafficking right in our own city. Ten women artists, including InLiquid Artist members Carol ColeLinda Dubin GarfieldLibbie Soffer, and Christine Stoughton, have created work that addresses the issues of exploitation, modern-day slavery and vulnerability. All artwork is for sale and proceeds will benefit The Salvation Army’s New Day Drop In Center for victims of human trafficking located in the Kensington section of the city.

The Opening Reception is First Friday, November 4, 5 – 9 PM. There will be a movie screening of Not My Life, a film about human trafficking on November 9, 6:30- 8:30 PM as well as a speaker from New Day. Carol Metzker, author of Facing the Monster and expert on human trafficking will speak at the Artists’ Reception on Sunday, November 20, 1 – 4 PM. At 2 PM there will be an ecumenical gathering on the street to highlight victims of human trafficking.

The Old City Jewish Art Center will participate in the Red Sand Project and have sand available for the public to fill in cracks in the sidewalk, symbolizing how people fall through the cracks in society. At 2:30 PM, artists will also discuss their work and how it relates to the theme. All events are free and open to the public.
