For 32 years, AIDS Walk Philly has been raising awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS services in the Greater Philadelphia Region. AIDS Fund continues its mission to provide emergency funds to individuals living with HIV through the From All Walks of Life Fund. There are over 27,000 people living with HIV in the Greater Philadelphia Region, according to the Office of HIV Planning Philadelphia. The funds raised from donations, sponsorships, and participation will remain in the region, which has a new infections rate three times greater than the national average. Funds raised at AIDS Walk Philly help those most vulnerable as AIDS Fund works toward zero stigma, zero new infections, and zero deaths.
Produced by AIDS Fund, the Walk will be held on scenic Martin Luther King Drive. The Walk will begin at the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art at 8:30 am. Philadelphians can support their neighbors and loved ones by participating in the AIDS Walk, which will bring together 10,000 people to raise public awareness and funds for those living with HIV/AIDS in our community.
AIDS Walk will again be honored to display 25 blocks from The AIDS Memorial Quilt. A powerful tool for raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, The Quilt is the largest ongoing community arts project in the world. Each of the more than 48,000 colorful panels that make up The Quilt memorializes the life of a person lost to AIDS and serves as a compelling reminder that the fight is not over yet.
Individuals can take action in the fight against AIDS by getting sponsors, making a donation, and joining thousands of others for the AIDS Walk. These efforts will support emergency financial assistance to people living with HIV disease in the Greater Philadelphia region, and help to provide education and increased public awareness of HIV/AIDS issues. “AIDS Fund is striving to reach zero stigma, zero new infections, and zero deaths in all the work we do,” notes AIDS Fund Executive Director Robb Reichard. “I am particularly moved by the number of people AIDS Fund has helped with small grants that assist them through unforeseen financial difficulties that may interfere with their effective health management.”
