WALLS COULD TALK: NEW WORK BY ADAM LEDFORD @ University City Arts League

April 6 - May 5

Event Navigation

Opening Reception, Thursday, April 6th 6 – 8 pm

Walls Could Talk imagines a parlor from UCAL’s days as a residential Victorian row home. Artist Adam Ledford will use his signature flat-backed ceramic “portraits” to evoke nineteenth-century household objects. Using objects drawn from regional museum collections, historical style guides, and local production centers, the artist will create an echo of the home’s former residents through reflections of their material culture.

Adam Ledford creates installations that explore the narrative power of objects. Research into decorative arts is essential to his practice, whether this means examining museum collections or rummaging through thrift shops. Ledford is fascinated by the ways we project personal identity through our possessions and the public performance of domestic space.

Ledford studied at Tyler School of Art and continues to live and teach community arts in Philadelphia. He has been an artist-in-residence both internationally and nationally, including the Archie Bray Foundation and Museum of Art and Design.
