Sunday Salon Discussion November 21, 1 PM – 3 PM
For this theme, you need to include in your work some reference to a word, words, or fragments of words from any historical period (think about the art of the Egyptians, Chinese, Middle Age illuminated manuscripts.); traditional sources using words (think about the texts from newspapers, magazines, books, brochures, graffiti, letters, diaries, maps) or your private calligraphy or symbols.
The use of language can create abstract work, for example, using the letter “A” in various permutations to create lines and shapes, or by using a script as part of a collage of abstract stripes or even using text as the substrate for a handmade book.
The use of language can appear in just a brief allusion, such as a piece of paper floating in the wind or a person reading a letter or book. It is your choice how prominent you wish to feature the words.
