Workshop with Stuart Gair -The Clay Studio

Throughout this informative and hands-on workshop, Stuart demonstrates throwing functional forms on the wheel that vary in complexity including cups, tea bowls, pitchers, teapots, and lidded jars. Then, you learn a variety of techniques for altering forms by paddling, cutting, and carving. Stuart also discusses his process of soda firing, and how he thinks about each form in relation to an atmospheric environment. (Please note hours are 10am-5pm Saturday and 10am-4pm Sunday.)

Stuart Gair received his MFA from University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 2017 and was featured as an Emerging Artist in the May 2017 issue of Ceramics Monthly. Gair received his Bachelors of Art and Sciences in History at Ohio University, Athens, OH where he went on to do Post-Baccalaureate work in ceramics. Gair has been a Summer Resident at Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, MT as well as a Watershed Artist in Residence and Salad Days Artist in Residence at the Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts in Newcastle, ME and is the Artist In Residence 2017-18 at Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard.
