Exhibits & Events

Heaven is often positioned as a place of eternal riches; imagined as an exclusive gated community with gold-plated roads and endless mansions, heaven is made seductive through images of wealth. Glorious Blasphemy Issue 2, titled "An Otherwise Heaven," is both a zine launch and group exhibition exploring: what can heaven be when not held hostage by the greed of the capitalist imagination? Here, we annihilate and reform heaven into a blasphemous paradise, one that centers Black/queer/trans dreaming.

Between the zine and exhibition, this spiritual exploration features a total of 17 Black, queer, and trans artists.

The 3rd-floor gallery of the DVAA is a small and intimate space. We are asking attendees to please RSVP for a time slot in order to allow for the most easeful exhibition experience. This is a masked event, please wear a mask when not eating or drinking. Zines will be available for purchase on-site at the DVAA from October 4th - October 24th.

We look forward to welcoming you and collectively entering this new kind of portal to heaven.

Thank you to our supporters: the UPenn LGBT Center, the Makuu Black Cultural Center, and the UPenn Wolf Humanities Center.

An Otherwise Heaven will be on view in Gallery 3 at Da Vinci Art Alliance from October 4 - October 24.
