InLiquid and the Philadelphia Anti-Defamation League (ADL) are collaborating to present an Invitational Juried Exhibition displayed at Engagement Studios from September 4 – October 8, 2015. This exhibition will be utilized as the ADL’s annual fundraiser event, ArtWorks ADL, on October 8, 2015 at Engagement Studios, and art sale proceeds will go towards supporting the ADL’s mission. As a part of InLiquid’s Art For Action program, InLiquid has curated this exhibit around positive responses to the ADL’s core initiatives.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) fights anti-Semitism and all forms of bigotry in the U.S. and abroad through information, education, legislation and advocacy. ADL serves as a resource for government, media, law enforcement, educators and the public. The Philadelphia regional office is located in Center City Philadelphia and serves Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware.
ArtWorks ADL is the premier art exhibition and fundraiser highlighting the mission and impact of the Anti-Defamation League – to stop the defamation of the Jewish people and to secure the justice and fair treatment to all. Since the first exhibition held in New York in 2012, ArtWorks ADL has brought together the ADL Next Generation Leadership community and attracted the attention of all generations, diverse community members, students and more. Over the past two years, ArtWorks ADL has been held in New York, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, West Palm Beach, St. Louis and Detroit. Over 240 artists have participated nationwide impacting almost 2,000 attendees and raising close to $1 million for ADL.
Art For Action is a program inspired by InLiquid’s Juvenile In Justice (2013) exhibition, which was the proud winner of the 2014 PNC Arts Alive Award for Innovation in Honor of Peggy Amsterdam (Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia). In light of recent education budget cuts in Philadelphia, arts education and programming have taken a step backward. As opportunities for individuals and youth to gain exposure to and appreciation for the arts are being diminished, it’s up to our communities to help replace these resource gaps and foster awareness around these issues. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, our project involves collaboration with various artists and organizations in Philadelphia, allowing us to diversify the accessibility of art programming and help connect youth and disadvantaged communities with local programs in their neighborhoods. Art For Action includes social justice art exhibitions and events, and interactive workshops, provided by InLiquid artist members, guest artists, and local art organizations. We are also developing arts education experiences and opportunities in alignment with our Art For Action exhibitions and programs. Our main partner venues include Crane Arts and the Painted Bride Art Center.
