After three years in our Rittenhouse location, COMMONWEAL is excited to announce that we will celebrate our grand reopening at our new larger exhibition space in the Olde Kensington Arts Corridor on Saturday, October 5th, from 12:00 — 17:00. Now located at 1341 North Mascher Street, COMMONWEAL remains committed to exhibiting and growing the careers of contemporary Philadelphia-based artists.
Visitors to this celebration will get a sneak peek of our Mascher Street location’s inaugural exhibition, Wedged Between Day and Night, a series of materially-dense mixed media paintings by Adam Lovitz. A father of two young children and an Arts Educator for over a decade—Lovitz currently works with 9th through 12th graders at The Shipley School and has taught widely throughout the Philadelphia region—his newest body of work utilizes the exuberant color palette and graphic intensity of childhood cartoons, along with their capacity for storytelling through myth, embracing collaboration to explore themes such as time as a negotiated reality and cooperative structures of growth.
