Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Marta Sánchez is a painter and printmaker living in Philadelphia. She identifies as Chicana and makes portraits of family members and loved ones on sheets of metal, building on the tradition of the Mexican retablos. Her works on paper are mostly linocuts, monotypes and serigraphs, which look to the example of the great Mexican printmakers of the twentieth century. She draws on their commitment to express the emotions of social content.
Marta Sánchez: Retablos and images of the loved will be on view October 18, 2024 – January 10, 2025. Schedule an appointment to visit the exhibition.
