Exhibits & Events

An artist's relationship to process and medium is like a fingerprint that can never be directly replicated. Each choice of object and alteration imbues a practice with the unpredictable. The works featured in Off Label are ruminations on the existential patterns and cultural narratives that bind us. They are the result of sinking into the known, entrenching deeply, and then leaning outward into a singular plane of relation. Process becomes a form of transformative medicine, where iteration, failure, and imagination breathe new life into conventional or forgotten materials.

Off Label brings together the work of Allison Hudson, Anna Bockrath, Bryan Hutchison, Carla Weeks, Lilah Benetti, Rachel D’Angelo, Robert Zumwalt, Victoria Ahmadizadeh Melendez, Wade Kramm, and Yuki Takeshima, curated through AUTOMAT Collective’s Annual Open Call. Their work investigates the unique power of process and materiality to provide unconventional remedies for existential ailments.

Off Label is on view at AUTOMAT Saturdays from 12-5pm, December 7 through January 18th.
