Austen Camille Walks Philadelphia in ‘Theme + Variations on Field Notes’

Join Austen Camille along with Evan Kassof and Andrew Litts in their project Theme + Variations on Field Notes. Camille walks the city of Philadelphia, from the lowest point to the highest point, while Kassof monitors her elevation and pace from the studio, and performs the information through a custom-built software instrument designed by music technologist Andrew Litts. The event takes place on LinoKinoTV’s Twitch on February February 7th from 10 am – 4 pm.

Carol Taylor-Kearney creates mixed media paintings and sculptures that are vibrant in color, adventurous in the mediums used, and playful in the open-ended stories or puzzles she presents. Based on recognizable people, places, and circumstances, she adds a bit of imagination to collected debris to create worlds to touch and to visit. Often, she takes advantage of combining real-life observations with art history and literature, and the subjectivity of time. Taylor-Kearney wants observers to feel that they can find something new every time they experience the artwork.

My recent works are a break from the painterly images I have made in the past few years. In a search for something more deliberate I changed my painting method and style. It is an abstraction using crosshatching, a technique usually reserved for rendering form and depth I have created an abstract flat image more akin to topography verging on minimalism. The linear hatch marks are made on a matte gradiated background which focuses the viewer on the duality of surface and color. These works are a meditation on labor and time: of coming together and the borders that separate us. The marks are not only creating an aesthetic pattern they are literally the marking of art, and the work that has gone into the piece.
