ARTisPHL Group 2
This Deadline Expired: Friday, April 29, 2022
The deadline to participate in ARTisPHL has been extended to Friday, April 29th at 4pm!
ARTisPHL is the new name for the competition for Philadelphia-based artists at all experience levels working in any medium. The project first launched in 2020 under a different name. ARTisPHL better reflects the mission and the long history of Philadelphia artists. ARTisPHL reminds us that ART is PHILLY and PHILLY is ART!
ARTisPHL is a competition for Philadelphia-based artists at all experience levels working in any medium. For Group 2 there will be three rounds, with awards at each round: Ideas, Impact, and Implementation. For this first round, they will be looking for ideas.
Public art enhances public space when it is accessible to and representative of the community where it resides. Exploring what engagement means, they hope to give a platform for new artist-led and community-focused creative ideas.
Up to 50 artists will each be awarded $1,000 for their ideas. These winning ideas will be shared on the city’s website and social media channels. Ideas may be in any medium but should consider how people can interact with the work. This project will foster, showcase, and amplify artists’ ideas about the evolving role of public art in Philadelphia.
ART IS ESSENTIAL PHL Group 1 launched in July of 2020 during a period of unprecedented unrest. The application heard from over 150 Philadelphia artists from around the city and 58 awards were distributed over three rounds. For this second group, the city hopes to reach, hear from, and support more artists working to shape and understand our new reality.
