Artist Wanted for Mural Project

NKCDC, in partnership with Mural Arts and Philadelphia LISC, is seeking to engage a mural artist in creating and installing a grate mural on the Kensington Storefront as part of its Porch Light program. This artist must be based in Philadelphia and looking to engage with an active community through art.

 

About Porch Light
Porch Light is a partnership between Mural Arts Philadelphia and the Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services. At the Storefront location, 2774 Kensington Avenue, Porch Light is working with NKCDC, Prevention Point, and Impact Services to provide a community space where neighbors can create art and connect with resources to live a better, healthier life.

The Porch Light program at the Kensington Storefront focuses on achieving universal health and wellness for its community members, especially those dealing with mental health issues or trauma. Porch Light projects are developed with consideration to the issues that have tangible effects on the community, such as mental health, substance use, spirituality, homelessness, trauma, immigration, war, and neighborhood safety.

Requirments
Experience in community art projects, preferable murals on metallic surfaces or grates
Commitment to community engagement
Familiarity with the Kensington community a plus
Ability to complete project by 8/31/17
This is what we’re offering
Space in the Kensington Storefront for community workshops and production.
Up to $3,000 budget for artist fees and supplies.
Work featured in a broad network of artists, creative placemaking projects, businesses, and organizations across Philadelphia and the country.
Community engagement and marketing support from NKCDC and Mural Arts Philadelphia.

Proposed budget for up to $3,000 to include both artist fees and supplies.
