Artists Equity Juried Show Entries Deadline

The Philadelphia/Tri-State Artists Equity Association is now accepting artwork for their juried show, held in the Cheltenham Center for the Arts.

JUROR: Thora Jacobson
Thora Jacobson is the juror of our Fall Members Exhibition titled Connections. Thora directed the Fleisher Art Memorial from 1983-2010, opening The Center for Works on Paper, expanding Fleisher’s program offerings, and overseeing improvements to the historic building. She then brought her talents to Philagrafika, an organization intent on increasing opportunities for working artists, particularly printmakers. Today, Thora helms the Philadelphia Art Alliance and continues to foster contemporary local artists while forging connections between art and the greater Philadelphia community.

My artwork talks quietly about the underlying significance of the domestic sphere on artist production. It argues for the relevance of craft, specifically ceramics and fiber arts, by creating a conversation between the two mediums. Displaying a fascination with the way fiber marks clay, my ceramics exhibit just how subtle those marks can be.

Ada Trillo is an interdisciplinary artist who primarily focuses on documentary photography.  Her work is included in the Philadelphia Museum of Art's permanent collection.  Having grown-up in Juarez, Mexico, she is deeply troubled by the social problems affecting women of the border towns. An example of Trillo’s work is a photo documentary exposé of low-cost sex workers in Mexico. The series includes a collection of photos taken in the brothels there, deglamorizing prostitution and showing the dehumanizing conditions of their work. Trillo’s photographs have been featured in several major press outlets -  and was recently selected Best Series in the Black and White International Awards.  She studied in Italy and Philadelphia, and her work has been shown in solo, and group exhibitions. Trillo lectures at conferences and universities, regarding women’s issues and human trafficking.  She is currently working on a series that tackles the issues surrounding immigration and the Honduran Caravan.
