ALCHEMIC BODY | FIRE . AIR . WATER . EARTH is an exhibition of contemporary art, an opportunity for international artists to exhibit their works in the blooming Bogotà arts scene, destination of curators and collectors from all over the world.

The exhibition is focused on the concept of transformation, starting from the alchemical processes, that aim to purify the nature elements: earth, air, water and fire. The alchemists, recognized as the ancestors of modern chemists, worked to discover the way the world is made and to modify its structure. The mysterious practice of alchemy always influenced the art and the artists from all the centuries. Alchemists and artists are fascinated by the concept of transformation and they both work to discover and create new possibile worlds. We invite artists to share their researches about the natural elements and the creative processes of mixing and changing, using the body as field of artistic transformation.

For more information or to take part in the selection, send an e-mail to lucacurci@lucacurci.com or visit their site: http://www.itsliquid.com/call-alchemic-body-fire-air-water-earth-bogota-2017.html

Val Rossman has been creating drawings and paintings in her studio in Philadelphia for the last 25 years. Her work has gone through various stages, however, her wonderful sense of color combined with a lyrical and often whimsical mentality have always infused her drawings with a lush and personal aura. The combination of rich and unexpected hues and gestures with sometimes questioning formats give the work an unforgettable presence.

Elaine M. Erne, co-founder and co-director of Star Wheel Printers, received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and her MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Erne’s drawings and prints have been featured in numerous invitational and juried national exhibitions. The Lives and Traumas of Stuffed Animals is a series of comically disturbing depictions of Mr. Bunny and his friends under siege. The series is made up of very large graphite pencil drawings, woodblocks, etchings, and lithographs. Although there is a playful side, the underlining theme is fear, cruelty, and survival. In recurring distressful situations people often become like dolls, presenting a steady happy personae no matter what is happening. Though the circumstances represented in the work are not real, no stuffed animals were hurt in the making of the work, they capture the aura that surrounds a person who has no control but will not give in.

Joe Vescovich's pieces are full of texture, layers and depth that can and need to be walked around and viewed form different points and perspectives. He engages the viewer to be active in the experience by encouraging interaction from differing perspectives. Many of his pieces have hints of sculptural qualities that pop from the wall. This creates shadows and movement within and outside of the piece.
