As the largest open studio tour in the region, Philadelphia Open Studio Tours is a unique way to connect to your community. Showcase your artistic practice this fall by inviting the public behind the scenes and into your studio or creative work space.

Important Dates:
February 5: Registration Opens
March 31: Last chance to register with discounts.
June 1: Last day to register in Print Directory*
*Also last day to purchase thumbnails for the directory
June 15: Last day to update online profile for content in print materials
September 7: Last day to update Online Profile

Susan Shipley is an abstract painter. She paints spontaneously. While enjoying the work of many abstract artists, she finds that the consistency and sameness, while calming, offers little surprise. She prefers to work spontaneous using dramatic colors in a dynamic fashion. The end results fall in the category of abstract expressionism.  Rather than providing calm, she prefers to provoke an immediate emotional response.  A short while ago, she fused and slumped glass creating 3 dimensional work; however, of late she just paints. She received a Ph.D. later in life and practices psychology in the schools with children. Susan is a Baby Boomer and a happy grandma.

As my concern for our planet grows daily, I make art to express this, in the beautiful, mysterious language of abstraction. For the last 6 years I have been painting about our climate crisis in a series on rising waters, rain, birds, coral, forests and lost ice. I show both the beauty and desecration of our environment. I convey feeling through the use of color and movement.
