Call for Artists: Window to Sculpture (W2S) Emerging Artist Series 2020

This Deadline Expired: Sunday, January 6, 2019

The Sculpture Center invites early career artists of our greater region whose practice includes sculpture, installation, mixed and expanded media, relational aesthetics, and performance to apply for inclusion in our annual W2S series (Window to Sculpture Emerging Artist series). Through W2S, begun in 1990, The Sculpture Center promotes the careers of exceptional sculptors and expanded media artists from our region during the first ten years of their profession. Four – six artists are selected annually by our Exhibition Committee for one-person, full gallery exhibitions of new work in either the Main (1000 sq. ft.) or Euclid Avenue (750 sq. ft.) Gallery with a group catalog (if funding is available). We encourage and fully support risk taking and new directions of creative by the artists selected for W2S.

Won Choi's sculptural forms grow out of the human figure, costume and the natural landscape, often merging together to reveal spiritual meaning, something she realized through meditating on the five Natural Elements.

Bouton creates unique engravings and etchings as well as installations, paper clothing, collages, and artist books. Color and textiles have been influential on Bouton’s work as they bear witness to the passage of time and lives lived. Echoing the actions of day-to-day life imprinted on textiles worn, Bouton’s prints yield a distressed, layered, and complex visual language. Creating her own singular and unique approach to engraving and etching, her work is monochromatic, but weaves in a palette of color not achievable through other means. With this singular technique, the work maintains her artistic voice while integrating all the stories, landscapes, and buildings of her ever-changing environment.

Constance Culpepper is a contemporary artist located in Philadelphia, PA (USA). Her large, vibrantly colored oil paintings primarily depict domestic scenes, including interiors, still life, the female figure, and chairs. The paintings are representational, yet deconstructed, and full of pattern. With her paper collages, Culpepper is more abstract, yet the themes of domesticity can still be found.
