Call for Artwork: Group Show at Awbury Arboretum in Germantown

Call for Artwork: Group Show at Awbury Arboretum in Germantown

This Deadline Expired: Tuesday, March 30, 2021

July and August 2021
Curated by Susan Breitsch

While not a “white-box gallery” Awbury Arboretum’s beautiful Cope house has 2 ground-floor rooms that are frequently used to show artworks. The setting is beautiful and there is an outdoor tent for a reception. The show will be hung “salon style” so that more art can be shown. Because no holes can be put in the walls the hanging will not be conventional.

At this point there is no theme. However, since the house is also a wedding venue, artwork depicting nudity, obscenity, or overt politics will not be accepted.

Work must be framed and ready for hanging. Drop off dates will be on dates in June 2021 to be determined. There is the possibility for shipping the work to my Susan Breitsch’s home. Please contact her first.

Important: There is no insurance, and you will need to sign an agreement. Because the Arboretum does not have a budget for hanging and reception, accepted artists will be asked for a $30 contribution.

You may price your work for sale if you like. The Arboretum will take 20% of the sale price. (Feel free to donate more)

If interested, send 3-5 images of 2-dimensional art work (not exceeding 36 inches) indicating medium and dimensions by March 30, 2021 to susanbre718@gmail.com for consideration. Also attach a CV.

If you would like to see photos of the indoor space please contact Susan Breitsch.

Please understand that you will not hear back unless the work is being considered for participation.

Influenced by folklore, superstition, divination, & forgotten territories reclaimed by nature, I create immersive installations out of hand-cut Tyvek—a nonwoven material most familiar as an insulating wrap used in the construction industry. These environments might be fairy-tale forests or the sites of biological disasters. Perhaps both.
