Call for Entries: 9 for 19 – 2021

This Deadline Expired: Tuesday, September 8, 2020

First Street Gallery announces a unique exhibition opportunity, “9 for 19,” opening January 6th, 2021 held in their Chelsea Gallery located at 526 West 26th Street Suite 209, New York, NY 10001. If, due to the ongoing health crisis, they should have to be temporarily closed to the public, this exhibition will be an online exhibition, heavily publicized to critics, collectors, art appreciators and guests.

The show will highlight a select group of nine artists, who will have an exhibition area of approximately 12’ x 12’ of wall space (not necessarily contiguous). Artists with 3D work will be given the equivalent amount of floor space. Selected artists may, within reason, use their space in whatever manner they feel shows their work to its best advantage. Artists will be required to submit a planned layout prior to installation and are strongly encouraged to install their own work.

The intentional physicality of my paintings is as much a result of my dialogue throughout the process as it is the means with which I invite viewers to experience the work viscerally. Iconography may be the entry point for viewers, but the essence of the elements and ambiguity demand individual interaction with each painting. Layering is both revealing and concealing, creating a balanced tension and suspension which is really what painting is for me. I use the elements to speak for me and I wish to open doors to new dialogue within and between viewers.
