Call for Entries: Images 2019 at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College

This Deadline Expired: Friday, May 3, 2019

The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts has issued the Call for Entries for its juried gallery exhibition, Images 2019. Images 2019 will hang in the Betsy Rodgers Allen Gallery and Downsbrough Room of the Schlow Centre Region Library during the month of July. Work eligible for exhibition in this show includes drawings, paintings, mixed media, photography, hand-pulled prints, watercolors, fiber, paper, and digital art.

The juror for Images 2019 is Shannon Egan, the Director of the Schmucker Art Gallery at Gettysburg College, where she curates exhibitions of contemporary and historical art. Shannon has received research fellowships from the ACLS/Terra Foundation for the Arts, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Center for the Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art. She is the author of articles on photographers Edward S. Curtis and Jeff Wall, and An American Art: Edward S. Curtis and The North American Indian, a book-length manuscript examining Curtis’s photography in the early twentieth century. She also teaches courses at Gettysburg College on contemporary art, the history and theory of photography, twentieth-century European art, and art and public policy and serves as director of the Interdisciplinary Studies Program. Shannon received her M.A. and Ph.D. in the History of Art from Johns Hopkins University and her B.A. in Art History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is currently curating a traveling exhibition of Norwegian and American landscape photography. She lives in Carlisle with her husband and two daughters.

Images 2019 is open to artists whose primary residence is in Pennsylvania. Digital images of original work produced within the last three years may be submitted. Both adults and enrolled students from ages 16 through 26 are encouraged to apply to the exhibition.

Artists will be eligible for at least $2,000 in prizes awarded by the juror. There will be merit awards, a Best of Show, and awards for best pastel, best drawing, and best student submission.

The application may be found online at http://arts-festival.com/images-juried-exhibition. The entry deadline is May 3.

The 53rd Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts will be from July 10 through July 14 on the
streets of State College and on the adjacent campus of Penn State. Children and Youth Day is July 10, and the Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition opens on July 11 and continues through July 14.
The Festival receives state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Relationships
(I always say) are never easy:
especially those between
color, shape, texture, space . . .
and tension.
The relationship of the part to the part,
the part to the whole and the relationship
of the piece to the viewer . . . no matter
what materials I use is all important.
I use titles to emotionalize these abstract
pieces to help communicate a connection
between the individual and
the universal whole.

In the metal pieces I use recycled aluminum
printing press plates which I sand,
cut and glue onto wood panels, they are
about energy and light, patterns and
motion, all influenced by the microcosm
of life forms, biology, and a
hint of satire.
