Call for Entry: KICKS

This Deadline Expired: Tuesday, October 1, 2019

Clogs, mules, slippers, heels – the Society of Arts + Crafts in Boston, MA, is calling all shoemakers, shoe collectors, and shoe aficionados to submit a pair of their favorite handcrafted heels for exhibition consideration in their upcoming show KICKS! If your shoes come with a personal story or interesting background, tell them! They would love to know more.

The Society is looking for footwear ranging from the historical to the avantgarde, from the sporty to the elegant, and from the humble to the outrageous. Made from leather or plastic – it’s all good. Feel free to show them what you got in advertising materials, posters, shoe boxes, or fancy packaging. Snakeskin heels from the 70s? Wooden clogs from Holland? How about snow shoes from Alaska? If it can be worn on your feet – and even if not – they want to know more about it!

The art and craft of shoemaking is very much alive – let’s see those flip-flops!

Exhibition: Jan – April 2020

Won Choi's sculptural forms grow out of the human figure, costume and the natural landscape, often merging together to reveal spiritual meaning, something she realized through meditating on the five Natural Elements.
