Call for Entry: smallWorks 2 1/2
This Deadline Expired: Sunday, September 30, 2018
Push the boundaries…
Dare to toggle between 2 dimensions and create an artwork with imprecise boundaries!
The painting that has sculptural aspects…
The sculpture that has painterly qualities…
…David Smith did that when he ground designs into his metal surfaces.
Calder when his “stabiles” inspired his “mobiles”. Collage artists do it
all of the time. Ellsworth Kelly did it when he made his colors and
forms vibrate off the canvas… Malevich’s “White on White” dispensed
with most of the characteristics of representational art with little to
no sense of color, just brush strokes and shadows.
Sculptural forms integrate many objects and present startling visuals to
view or interact with… computers animate and are a whole new dimension entirely.
Create your personal
Challenge the viewer to “see” a bit differently. Be it light, sound,
surface or kinetic aspects off the palette, chisel, computer or 3D printer
to invite one to experience a bit more.
Let’s see what you’ve got!
Garrison Art Center invites you to submit your expression of 2½D for this year’s smallWORKS Juried Exhibition. 2½bridges two dimensions…not 2D, not 3D. What form will that take through the eyes and hands of painters, sculptors, photographers, video artists, et al? Deadline to apply to midnight, September 30, 2018. Please read the details in the prospectus below and click to apply, or learn more on the website at garrisonartcenter.org.
