CALL FOR LGBTIA+ ARTISTS in ALL MEDIA “BRICK BY BRICK” , COMMUNITY JURIED SHOW

This Deadline Expired: Thursday, May 9, 2019

It’s important to acknowledge up front that THEY strongly believe that all art created through the lens of queerness is in itself an act of resistance. However, artists submitting to this show should also understand that our jury may choose to prioritize submissions that speak directly to themes such as resistance, identity, the empowerment of people who create together and Queer culture.

Here is WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW and WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
* SIZE LIMITATIONS are the usual (for veterans of our space)…2D work must not exceed 48″ in combined dimensions (height+width) and 3D work must easily fit in our case.
* There is NO ENTRY FEE!
* You can send up to five (5) works RIGHT HERE to offthewallgallery@gmail.com.
* In addition to the VIDEO/IMAGE FILES, which should be relatively high resolution (1000 pixels on the longest dimension for JPGs) but manageable in size (no more than 1 mg each), you should include with your emailed entries TITLES, MEDIA AND PRICES, as well as a single TWO-SENTENCE STATEMENT to the jury.

Keep in mind that we are already in countdown mode already. the DEADLINE is two months from tomorrow (and eight weeks from yesterday!): THURSDAY, MAY 9 (at midnight). You will learn of the jury’s decisions during the week of May 20…you should be prepared to deliver accepted artwork on Saturday, June 1…and BRICK BY BRICK runs June 2 through August 2, with an Opening Reception on Thursday, June 6.

Please send any questions you may have — and they eagerly anticipate your entries!

Many thanks in advance,
Togo

Celebrating 40 years of revolutionary art

My art spans many disciplines and areas. Being a self taught, learning and experimenting has become an ingrained part of my practice and as such there is a diverse range of subject matter and on some occasions style. Majority of my works are oil paintings, created in series, in a representational style,. Some of note are “Buddhas on Handmade Paper”, “Bicycles in Snow” “#Savetheelephants”. The common thread in my diverse art is the feeling of serenity and tranquility, with the ultimate objective in every painting to capture the harmonious existence of different elements in nature, that evidences life is strong, calm and beautiful.

Carol Taylor-Kearney creates mixed media paintings and sculptures that are vibrant in color, adventurous in the mediums used, and playful in the open-ended stories or puzzles she presents. Based on recognizable people, places, and circumstances, she adds a bit of imagination to collected debris to create worlds to touch and to visit. Often, she takes advantage of combining real-life observations with art history and literature, and the subjectivity of time. Taylor-Kearney wants observers to feel that they can find something new every time they experience the artwork.
