DVAA invites members and the public to submit a proposal for our 2017 20×20 Powered by PechaKucha Night. We are looking for participants who have something to say and who want to take up the PechaKucha challenge!
PechaKucha is a presentation style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each. It was devised in February 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Tokyo’s Klein-Dytham Architecture as a platform for young designers to meet and exchange ideas. The format is strictly regulated- 20 slides for 20 seconds each, for a total of 6 minutes and 40 seconds. It’s challenging and fun. Our media expert, Gary Grissom will coordinate the technical end of things. You’ll need to provide 20 digital images and a compelling story to tell. A practice session will be required for first-time presenters.
We are looking for a variety of presentations on practically any topic, not just your current artwork. This is a chance to tell us about what goes on around your art-making – be it intellectual, historical, experiential context, or a discussion about process, or anything else of interest you would like to share. If you would like to speak about your artwork, think of this opportunity as an enhanced Gallery Talk, or illustrated Artist Statement. Are you investigating and learning about something that excites and/or inspires you? Did you see an exhibition or a collection of images that you would like to tell us about? If you are a curator, here’s your chance to curate and present an “ephemeral, narrated exhibition.”
-September 22nd – A brief, one paragraph narrative of your presentation and a sentence or two about what kind of images you will be presenting in parallel with your “story”. Submit by email to Jarrod@davinciartalliance.org Images are not required for this step.
-October 10th – Notification: From the submissions we receive, the PechaKucha committee will create a program of 10 presentations. First-time presenters will be required to meet with our Executive Director for a practice run-through about 2 weeks before the event.
-November 10th – images due.
-December 10 – Sunday evening event, 5-7 pm, with sushi and drinks
