In his introduction to "Michael Kenna: A Twenty Year Retrospective", Peter Bunnell explored the notion of the “unheroic landscape,” a term that aptly described the photographer’s “concern for the land more as feeling than about the land as place.” I recognized in this characterization a kindred sensibility that continues to inform my work. I find myself drawn to both the apposition and opposition of natural and human-made elements in landscape photography, and seek to convey the emotional to and fro between timelessness and evanescence.

My work is primarily in oils and focuses on urban street scenes and still life settings made up of vintage housewares and toys. I am interested in all things old as I believe they have the most interesting stories to tell. Buildings and objects from the past both bring back memories for those who have previously interacted with them, and discovery to those seeing them for the first time. I work in a contemporary realist style, looking to bring to attention the beautiful design elements that already exist in the subjects that I paint.
