Employment Opportunity at Mural Arts – Lead Teaching Artist

Mural Arts Philadelphia is the nation’s largest public art program, dedicated to the belief that art ignites change. For over 30 years, Mural Arts has united artists and communities through a collaborative and equitable process, creating nearly 4,000 artworks that have transformed public spaces and individual lives. Mural Arts aims to empower people, stimulate dialogue, and build bridges of understanding with projects that attract artists from Philadelphia and around the world, and programs that focus on youth education, restorative justice, mental health and wellness, and public art and its preservation. Popular mural tours offer a firsthand glimpse into the inspiring stories behind Mural Arts’ iconic and unparalleled collection, which has earned Philadelphia worldwide recognition as the “City of Murals.”

Restorative Justice Program

Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Restorative Justice Department serves over 100 men and women annually through our Guild employment program and our art programs inside jails and prisons. Our programs provide a creative outlet for some of the city’s most vulnerable populations.

Mural Arts seeks to build safe spaces with and for the population we serve. Our curriculum offers students the technical and creative foundation necessary to imagine, design, and create a wide range of individual and public works of art. Whether creating mural or honing foundational art skills, lessons are designed with both short and long-term goals in mind, incorporating artistic and social history in addition to traditional and emerging art processes. At every turn, we encourage our students to reflect on themselves and make a positive difference in the communities in which they work and play while utilizing restorative and trauma-informed care practices.

In order to best serve the varied needs of our students, the Mural Arts Restorative Justice department seeks passionate and creative art educators who are committed to working in partnership with vulnerable populations. We seek individuals who are excited about mentoring, eager to collaborate with fellow artists, and able to work in an energetic environment that demands flexibility, dedication, innovation, adaptability and enthusiasm. The ideal candidate is patient, has the ability to compromise and embraces challenges.
