Experimental Sculpture “Bilingual class Spanish/English”

Experimental Sculpture “Bilingual class Spanish/English”

This Deadline Expired: Monday, June 26, 2017

Explore the exciting interplay of found objects and the art of papier-mâché, as you learn about the Oaxacan-Mexican folk art sculptures, the Alebrijes. Often depicting illusionary creatures, mystical animals, and mythological beings, this art form will serve as a jumping off point for your own creations out of recycled materials and papier-mâché. Transform your old radio or television into a whole new life form, with arms and legs, scales, or wings! You will also learn how to finish your final piece with a variety of mediums, including varnish and paint.

We will have all the Required supplies for this workshop:
Old radio, a computer, electronic parts, found objects, including jars, buttons, etc. We will transform all these discarded objects into pieces of art.

My work can be traced back to my own personal history and experiences, yet rather than being personal symbols, it is a product of a collective memory that I share with the viewer.

Joe Vescovich's pieces are full of texture, layers and depth that can and need to be walked around and viewed form different points and perspectives. He engages the viewer to be active in the experience by encouraging interaction from differing perspectives. Many of his pieces have hints of sculptural qualities that pop from the wall. This creates shadows and movement within and outside of the piece.
