Neighborhood Time Exchange: West Philadelphia Artist Residency

Neighborhood Time Exchange: West Philadelphia Artist Residency

This Deadline Expired: Monday, November 19, 2018

The Neighborhood Time Exchange: West Philadelphia Artist Residency is seeking two artists for residencies that will take place February – June 2019, and July – November 2019.

Time Exchange invites artists to engage their personal, autonomous artistic practice within the space of a store-front studio, while also providing a platform for contributing to projects that directly and positively impact the surrounding community. In exchange for free studio space, a monthly stipend, and basic tools and supplies, artists will provide skill and time-based resources for the surrounding communities, working on civic projects suggested by residents and community based organizations. Artists will also take part in open houses, exhibitions, and similar events that will create connections with the community.

The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on November 19.

Interested applicants are encouraged to join Time Exchange on Second Friday, November 9 from 7-9pm, to visit their 4017 Lancaster Ave studio space, and ask any questions about the program or the application!

Fran Lightman Gibson a Philadelphia painter working primarily with oil on canvas.
I attribute the source of my artistic inspiration to my love, fear, and awe of nature as it both represents and defines the tension and optimism of life. My “Take Any Road Series” encourages the viewer to have the confidence to experience life no matter how difficult or confusing, beautiful, or powerful. All of this exists with an underlying structure of assumptions.
I think we all see the world a little differently and feel our own experience uniquely.  I paint using what all of my senses have given to me as the experience.  When I paint the sky, I am feeling the wind, putting it to music in my head, remembering the smell of the chance of rain, tasting the air, seeing the clouds dance.
