Practice Gallery Seeking New Members

Practice Gallery Seeking New Members

This Deadline Expired: Sunday, August 8, 2021

The Practice Gallery seeks to support artist practices that focus on performance, participation, and experimentation.

Practice’s governing body is composed of a group of artists and art workers who produce or do not produce art works in a variety of mediums both physical and metaphysical. Current members include Enrica Ferrero, Rich Hogan, Katie Hubbell, Jerry Kaba, Peter Morgan, and Yixuan Pan.

What it means to be a member:
-Practice is a curatorial project. Members’ own work is not shown at Practice Gallery, with the exception of the annual fundraising show.
-All shows are curated democratically. This means periodically meeting as a group to discuss ideas and review applications for exhibitions. All members are encouraged to present ideas and artists that they feel strongly about.
-If the member’s artist/idea is decided on, that member is the lead artist on the project. However the rest of the members will provide support to the lead member.
-Every member has a job such as (website, social media, facilities, treasurer, beer proprietor). The members job is their responsibility each month in addition to if they are the lead on a given project. If a member needs any additional help with their job or project another member is always happy to help!
-Monthly meetings to discuss what needs to be done in the upcoming month. This is usually done over dinner or zoom and takes about an hour.
About every seven Months there is a longer meeting (Epic Meeting) to work on the exhibition schedule. This is usually done at a member’s house accompanied by a potluck.
-Members are expected to help out on First Fridays.
-Members are expected to gallery sit occasional Saturdays from 2-6pm. This usually ends up being once every other month.
-Member dues: The rent and utilities cost is divided by the number of members. This is usually around $100 a month. If a member can secure any funding this number can be reduced!
-Members are encouraged to think outside the box. Practice Gallery is excited for whatever interesting projects members come up with!

Application:

-Letter of intent (why do you want to join? What interesting skills do you offer?)

-Link to your website or examples of your art, writing, event planning, ect…)

Visit https://practicegallery.org/ for more information. Applications can be emailed to info@practicegallery.org with the subject line “New Member Search.” Applications due August 8.

What elevates his work from mere craftsmanship is his visionary outlook. Rearranging objects and incorporating an iconography of myths, fairy tales, and personal idiosyncrasies, Warren Muller exudes an envious agility. Motion, change and improvisation are implied like a glimpse of chaos captured and frozen for a split-second.

Karen Hunter McLaughlin is a lifelong Philadelphia artist who has worked in traditional 2-D mediums as well as steel wire sculpture. Current work themes are a congruence of large format, multilayer prints creating 2-D inhabitable virtual-vistas, and a collection of smaller prints that focus on human connection, much like the ripple effect of a stone thrown in water.
