Il Varco is glad to inaugurate the second year of Prisma Art Prize, a quarterly award for artists from all around the world that will become a collective exhibition for the first time in September 2020 in Rome.

Organized with the goal of creating a space for visual artists to share their work with hundreds of colleagues from all around the world, it offers $2000 in cash awards every year, purchase prizes and packages of services from Arteza and Biafarin in four seasonal competitions and an online gallery where the artworks are put on display forever.

Jurors are qualified and esteemed painters, curators, mixed media artists, and digital artists from different countries. The exhibition will take place at Atelier Montez, a contemporary art factory born in 2012 from the redevelopment of an urban wreck on a project by the Artist Gio Montez, that has already attracted international artists like Hermann Nitsch, Cheikh Zidor and Turi Sottile.

Phyllis Anderson has been painting for nearly three decades, exploring process and outcome, meaning and metaphor. I enjoy the manipulation of materials and how process itself contributes to the life and form of the image. Dramatic, gestural lines describe the play of light and wind across the water, while softer marks add life to the slow movement of rain laden clouds. Areas of sky, water, and land are knit together with brushstrokes to represent their seamless interaction under the common conditions of weather and time. In my acid etched tin pieces, areas of watery marks are left visible to suggest the underlying layers of the landscape. I  do not strive to recreate the particulars of  places that inspire me, but rather the timelessness of the elements of light, weather, and geometries that inform them. My work is not about how the landscape looks as much as about how the landscape makes me feel. I try to create an image that allows the viewer to engage with it in such a way as to invite similar introspection.
