Ragdale Artist Fellowships

Located in the former country estate of architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, Ragdale is a nonprofit artists community. Nearly two hundred residencies and fellowships are offered annually to creative professionals of all types, making Ragdale one of the largest interdisicplinary communities in the country. During each residency session, thirteen artists-in-residence enjoy uninterrupted time for work, a supportive environment, dynamic arts exchanges, fifty acres of idyllic prairie, and a family-style dinner each evening.
Ragdale has posted numerous upcoming fellowship opportunities:
Alice Judson Hayes Fellowship — An 18- or 25-day residency and a $500 stipend will be awarded to a writer who is working on a project designed to bring awareness to a contemporary issue having to do with peace, social justice, education, or the environment. Projects may be nonfiction or fiction (including journalism, essays, memoir, scriptwriting, creative nonfiction). Academic writing is not eligible.
Riedel Fellowship — In partnership with Loan and Norbert Riedel, an 18- or 25-day residency and $500 stipend will be awarded to an emerging Vietnamese visual artist or writer. The winner will be the subject of a brief video documentary/interview and have the opportunity to present as part of public program.
Schumann Fellowship — In partnership with Barbara Schumann, an 18- or 25-day residency and $500 stipend will be awarded to one emerging visual artist from Latin America. The winner will be the subject of a brief video documentary/interview and have the opportunity to present as part of a public program.
Sybil Shearer Fellowship — In partnership with the Morrison-Shearer Foundation, an 18- or 25-day residency along with a $500 stipend will be awarded to an emerging or established individual choreographer and/or dance artist. The winner will be the subject of a brief video documentary/interview and have the opportunity to present as part of a public program. The residency may be awarded to a collaborative duo if they share a live/work studio.
Traeger Fellowship — In partnership with the Traeger Foundation, an 18- or 25-day residency along with a $500 stipend will be awarded to a musician, composer, or music scholar. The winner will be the subject of a brief video documentary/interview and have the opportunity to present as part of a public program. The residency may be awarded to a collaborative duo if they share a live/work studio. When possible, the fellowship will prioritize artists whose practices are rooted in and/or a response to traditions associated with guitar and/or similar stringed instruments.
