Residency Program, Interstate Projects in New York, NY

Residency Program, Interstate Projects in New York, NY

This Deadline Expired: Friday, March 20, 2020

ABOUT

Interstate Projects’ studio residency program grants one artist a free 300 square foot studio space for a four-month period on site at the gallery. Application is free and residency periods are open to artists based in the USA and internationally. This is an open submission residency that will be selected by a juried panel. Applications are free.
Interstate Projects Studio Program has been created to support artists in the face of unsustainable demands made by real estate and market effects on studio practices.

Through this program, artists will have the opportunity to nurture experimentation and the conceptual incubation of ideas. This residency will give artists access to creative resources and networks in New York and its surrounding area through studio visits, critiques and introductions made through Interstate Projects’ network of peers.

Interstate Projects Studio Program is an expansion of the gallery’s mission to nurture, challenge and push artist’s abilities within a healthy and un-capitalized zone of experimentation.

RULESThe studio is a private space and is approximately 300 square feet. The program is open to VISUAL ARTISTS in the USA and internationally.* There are no additional funds for materials, travel, or room and board. This space is not live-work and artists must find accommodations if they do not currently live in a commutable area.

Artists are expected to utilize the space on a regular basis during their residency period. Failure to do so will result in the request to terminate the program regardless of time left in residency.

*INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS are welcome to submit but Interstate Projects is not able to assist in visa, sponsorships or other immigration requirements.

To Apply

This is an open application and a juried panel of arts professionals will select the artist for the studio residency. This panel will be revealed at the announcement of each residency.

All materials must be sent in ONE PDF file labeled Last Name_First Name (ex. Doe_Jane).

All files must be no larger than 10MB. Failure to submit materials as noted will not be reviewed.

DEADLINE: March 20, 2020. Recipient informed by: April 1, 2020. Application is free.

Andrea Caldarise is a painter and collaborator inspired by exploring memories and happenstance conversations. Public spaces are visceral, storied environments—her art practice explores the psychological connection between landscapes and people. Each painting invokes a singular place, inspired by referencing the emotions, sights, and textures of an experience. Caldarise’s art focuses on connecting audiences with cityscapes and common, shared spaces within by capturing the experience of discovery, recreating a place through memories and imagination. Her work borders on magical realism, borrowing from observations, historical research, and surreal themes, Caldarise's artwork reveals the commonplace and extraordinary narratives in our environment.
