SABA IV Call For Art

Take advantage of this great opportunity to showcase your work in front of collectors in an art museum setting and join the emerging, established, and community artists supporting The Delaware Contemporary. Last year, we received 349 pieces of artwork from exhibiting artists, The Delaware Contemporary studio artists, incredibly talented community artists, national and international artists from places like Amsterdam and China, our wonderful board members, and dedicated staff. Help us exceed that number for SABA IV! 
Each donation must be a 6×6 inch (15cm) square piece of wall art. No other sizes or free-standing sculptures will be accepted. 

Please sign only on the back of the work for anonymous exhibition. Artists may enter up to six (6) works, in any 2D or 3D medium. Smaller works on paper may be mounted to a 6×6 inch card stock or board. Clay or metal work thicker than 1/4 inch must have holes to accommodate pins/nails. All entries that meet the specifications will be accepted, however The Delaware Contemporary reserves the right to jury-out work. Entries will not be returned, but artists retain copyrights. There is no entry fee.

I am an abstract artist represented by BeatyAmerican in Olde Kensington, Philadelphia.  My paintings include a series of Arctic landscapes which are based on images of arctic glaciers, tundra, and sea ice mainly in Greenland and Iceland.  I have been selected as the featured artist for the BeatyAmerican new space with NEXTFAB at 1800 American Street, Philadelphia.  I am drawn to the elements of the Arctic sea, land, and sky and the interface among these bodies.  Decisions are made what features and elements will remain and what will be discarded, reflecting a rapidly changing landscape yet still beautiful.
I work with oil paint, wet on dry, on wood panels with cradled frames establishing texture and depth using brushes, palette knives, oil sticks, and oil pens.  Completed paintings are professionally framed and ready to hang.
Earlier work focused on urban landscapes, refineries, bridges, buildings, other structures, and geometric patterns of developed lands and built environments.

Relationships
(I always say) are never easy:
especially those between
color, shape, texture, space . . .
and tension.
The relationship of the part to the part,
the part to the whole and the relationship
of the piece to the viewer . . . no matter
what materials I use is all important.
I use titles to emotionalize these abstract
pieces to help communicate a connection
between the individual and
the universal whole.

In the metal pieces I use recycled aluminum
printing press plates which I sand,
cut and glue onto wood panels, they are
about energy and light, patterns and
motion, all influenced by the microcosm
of life forms, biology, and a
hint of satire.
