“So Many Skins, Since” Open Call for Art

“So Many Skins, Since” Open Call for Art

This Deadline Expired: Friday, August 13, 2021

Somanyskins.org virtually showcases art that embraces triumph over life’s challenges and is seeking artwork that celebrates personal transformation. The first call ends August 13, 2021, and the show “opens” on August 15, 2021. The site sprung from a series of Brian David Dennis’s photographs by the same name. Brian David Dennis, a multi-disciplinary artist in Philadelphia, is a survivor of kidnapping and sexual abuse who was overwhelmed by the heartwarming reaction of sharing his story. Over and over, people were inspired and tapped into a hopefulness. Building on that, he created a space to celebrate triumph and transformation. You can submit (anonymously or not) here.

I endeavor to find the connection between math and deliberation with nature and randomness. I employ an experimental approach inspired by urban and natural textures, using geometry, patterns, and contrived shapes to create a lyrical, non-narrative statement. My paintings are colorful, contemporary and abstract, often based on musical frequencies, graffiti, architecture and patterns.

I Found My Voice Through Art. As women in a patriarchal society, we often stick to our roles until we can’t anymore. WE WAKE UP! We feel different. The world looks like a different place. We breathe the air like it wasn’t there before. I come from a long line of activists and art lovers. My grandmother was in the Red army in Russia, immigrated here and marched with the suffragettes. My mother was a Democratic committee woman in a Republican neighborhood getting doors slammed in her face. My art reflects and represents current events in performing arts and politics. People in the news inspire me... their movement, their expression, their passion for change. Look at the eyes of my portraits. What do they see? What have they seen? What are they feeling? Happiness, sadness, fear, defiance, courage... each has their own story. My paintings are like family members. There is an emotional part of me in every painting. When they sell, I feel a loss. I go back and look at the images to keep them close.

Linda Brenner's sculptures express the inherent structure and order found in nature. Her sculpture uses geometric compositions and references primal imagery, which transcends style or ethnic origin.
