Vox Populi is currently seeking applications for new individuals to join their community of artists, community organizers, arts enthusiasts, and supporters of independent arts and culture in Philadelphia!

Following a year of virtual meetings and programs, Vox recently re-opened with new exhibitions and is looking to add fresh energy, perspective, and community-relationships to all levels of the organization. Apply by 11:59pm on Sunday, June 6th to be considered either for Collective Membership or Board of Directors!

Vox Populi’s Collective Membership is composed of early- and mid-career independent visual and performing artists, filmmakers, poets, curators, and community organizers interested in experimental, non-commercial, collaborative, and multi-disciplinary modes of art production and exhibition making. Get to know current Collective Membership, and learn more / apply here!

However, after an internal review of our organization, we have identified a few key areas in which we are hoping to expand. Get to know their current Board of Directors, and learn more / apply here!

Elaine M. Erne, co-founder and co-director of Star Wheel Printers, received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA and her MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Erne’s drawings and prints have been featured in numerous invitational and juried national exhibitions. The Lives and Traumas of Stuffed Animals is a series of comically disturbing depictions of Mr. Bunny and his friends under siege. The series is made up of very large graphite pencil drawings, woodblocks, etchings, and lithographs. Although there is a playful side, the underlining theme is fear, cruelty, and survival. In recurring distressful situations people often become like dolls, presenting a steady happy personae no matter what is happening. Though the circumstances represented in the work are not real, no stuffed animals were hurt in the making of the work, they capture the aura that surrounds a person who has no control but will not give in.
