Anyone Can Be a Collector: Art for the Cash Poor 2018

It’s around the corner and we’re psyched!   Art for the Cash Poor 2018 is taking an exciting leap from its usual Crane Arts home to the Spring Arts District of Callowhill, just behind Union Transfer.

It’s art & crafts fair meets summer block party, with food, drinks, live music, and, of course art–all priced under $199.  Art collecting today should be accessible to anyone, and this is a fun opportunity to start a collection, or simply browse with friends and family amongst relaxed mid-June vibes.

Seeing working artists, emerging artists, and art aficionados come together at this crazy event every year is a treat.  And it’s not just fine art paintings–crafters and designers also come way with ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, and much more.

Barbara majored in art and art education at New York University, earning a BA and MA in Art Education and was a highly praised art teacher in both New York and Philadelphia. In mid-career she earned a degree in interior design/space planning (U of Arts) after which she completed major projects for many corporate clients. She's returned to her artistic roots and now shows at many galleries and centers garnering awards.

Jasmine Allege is a Philadelphia based artist, originally from California. She received her bachelor’s degree in drawing and painting from Portland State University in 2010 and her Masters of Fine Art from Moore College of Art & Design in 2013.  She has participated in an international artist residency at the Burren College of Art in County Clair, Ireland and worked for the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and The Sol LeWitt Estate.

The intentional physicality of my paintings is as much a result of my dialogue throughout the process as it is the means with which I invite viewers to experience the work viscerally. Iconography may be the entry point for viewers, but the essence of the elements and ambiguity demand individual interaction with each painting. Layering is both revealing and concealing, creating a balanced tension and suspension which is really what painting is for me. I use the elements to speak for me and I wish to open doors to new dialogue within and between viewers.
