Artist Statement

I always say that Relationships are never easy, especially those between color, shape, texture and space.

With all that in mind this series began by my using many unsuccessful prints, repurtposed paaintings and a former studio mate's discarded papers, scraps and starts. It was freeing to work without the worry of a new beginning and where to start.

The works employ bold shapes and unerlining textrues, layered and collaged until they becoe something new while keeping the history and process of the old.

Artist Biography

Among many awards, in 2024 and in 2011 I was the recipient of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Fellowship for Painting, and in 2000 awarded the Samuel Fleisher Challenge Exhibit in Philadelphia.

My work has been exhibited widely and is part of many public and private collectons such as

I have studied at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Fleisher Art Memorial, and have worked for many years as a graphic designer.

I have been teaching art for 14 years at Perkins Center for the Arts.
