Second Thursday receptions: Jan. 8 and Feb. 12, 6 – 9 pm
Action at a Distance features two complementary series of works by InLiquid member J. Gordon and Philadelphia based artist Justin Baldwin. The first is a collaborative series between artists Adam Erick Wallace (NY) and J. Gordon (WA), which incorporates elements of both of their artistic practices into a single body of work that refers to the horizon of the landscape and its underlying structure. The photographs used are from a larger collection of work entitled Wanderings. Taken while Wallace traveled throughout the American West, the source images describe a series of poetic moments that connect to create a larger implied narrative. After his own trip across the country, Gordon responded to this notion of a blurred landscape as seen from a car window by distorting the images, stretching them, and incorporating geometric elements as proxies for unseen forms and structures. Justin Baldwin’s series of abstract paintings is a response to this collaborative work.
The public hours for Crane Arts are noon – 6 pm, Wednesday – Saturday, and until 9 pm on the Second Thursday of each month.
