Dougherty‘s recent collection of paintings holds reminiscences of a playfulness in her earlier works, while clearly showcasing an evolved sophistication in composition and execution. Learning from observations found in the standards that the masters had set before us, she brings a contemporary twist of the whimsical and bold with the palette choices and brush work. Beautiful treatment of the timeless motif of still lifes centered on floral arrangements, colored glass, made new with youthful expression. It cannot be unsaid how the presentation of the paintings floating amidst metallic gold frames enhances the glowing warmth of each piece. The orchestration of each pieces contents is neither congested nor scant. Lush where necessary in flower petals and leaves, lean when seeing through transparent glass, there is a wanting to hold each piece close.
