Second Thursday receptions: January 10 and February 14, 6 – 9 pm
This winter InLiquid presents Istoria, an installation by member artist Jay Walker in the Hall at the Crane Arts Building. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Second Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 6 to 9 pm. An additional reception on February 14, 2012 from 6 to 9 pm in the Hall will be held during InLiquid’s Benefit v.13* free Second Thursday and Young Professionals Preview event in the Ice Box Project Space.
This installation will be constructed entirely of tape, laser cut vinyl, contact paper and veneers, then layered, shaped and formed to create the imagery throughout the Hall space along three sections. The installation is centered around Theotokos, by definition meaning Mother of God, typically used in the Eastern Orthodox Church as a title of the Virgin Mary. Walker traditionally has created this series on wood panels. This exhibition is his exploration into using walls as his surface of choice. Walker explains, “When people interact with this series I hear a multiplicity of identifications, all representing different cultures and ages, from druids to Buddhist monks to burqas to crusaders to Mary to Star Wars.”
The public hours for the Crane Arts Building are noon – 6 pm, Wednesday – Saturday, and until 9 pm on the Second Thursday of each month.
*InLiquid’s Annual Silent Auction and Benefit v.13 will take place in the vast Ice Box Project Space at the Crane Arts Building, 1400 N. American Street, from February 14 – 15, 2013, with the Main Event on February 15 from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.
