Exhibits & Events

Part of CraftNOW’s Craft Month, John Y. Wind: The Women is a collaborative portrait project with the women in John Y. Wind’s life: portraying the women of Wind’s family, friends, and colleagues. Life-size assemblages & vignettes reveal the complexity of the women’s private and public identities represented by material possessions, inviting viewers to examine their own identities.
The exhibition will also include a Charm Bar—an extension of Wind’s work as a jewelry designer, and an affordable opportunity for visitors to create a portrait of themselves through their choices and combinations of eclectic and symbolic charms. The Charm Bar will be available throughout the duration of the exhibition.
John Y. Wind is a Philadelphia-based artist and accessory designer. As an artist, he has shown his identity-based collages, sculptures, and installations in London, Philadelphia, New York, and Miami. He has had solo shows at James Oliver Gallery, Philadelphia (The Making of a Modern Man, 2013), Select Fair, Miami (The John Y Wind Portrait Gallery, 2013), and ArtFronts, Philadelphia (I Shop Therefore I Am, 2012). For over 30 years his company Maximal Art has designed and marketed modern vintage fashion jewelry and gifts, selling to thousands of boutiques, gift shops, and large accounts including Anthropologie, Disney, and QVC. His work is in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Musée des Arts Decoratifs, Paris; and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Wind studied at the Slade School of Fine Arts, London, and the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia PA.
