Lara Cantu-Hertzler at the Park Towne Place Art Studio Gallery
This selection of mixed media paintings of architectural facades, interiors, and human beings from the artist’s life showcases her passion for the medium of oil paint on wooden panel. Cantu-Hertzler continues to experiment with the possibilities of this traditional medium, in particular through her integrations of encaustic, alcohol ink, and collage techniques. The results are intense, lush, and dramatically colorful.
In her work, Cantu-Hertzler explores themes of urban decay and feminine identity in fractured, multiplied spaces. In 2008, she graduated from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and in 2014 received a full fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center Residency Program. She has produced solo exhibitions at Allens Lane Art Center, Abington Art Center, and High Wire Gallery, and her work has won numerous awards. She is an InLiquid artist member and is based in Philadelphia.
