Da Vinci Art Alliance proudly presents On Process, a juried exhibition that asks artists to expose the moments of making that often happen behind closed doors. How does one conceptualize work cut from steel? What is the messy midpoint when wrestling with textiles? And, as the artist changes over time, how does the work change in response? Attracting submissions from artists across the globe, each piece selected for this exhibition will offer viewers a rare window onto the artist’s relationship with their inspiration, their materials and their practice.

The juror for this exhibition, Joseph Girandola, assumed office as president of The Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2019. His experience prior to holding this position boasts roles as the interim associate dean of graduate studies and research at the University of Cincinnati in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP); the Director of Graduate Studies for the School of Art at DAAP; and director of the MFA program at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. During his tenure at DAAP, he sought and secured new external funding opportunities for creative research and was part of the steering committee for the University of Cincinnati’s 1819 Innovation Hub.

The “On Process” exhibition submissions have succeeded in a magnitude of ways. It was an honor to select work that truly speak to nature of the theme that process reveals truth more than anything I have ever known.” said Joseph Girandola. While classically trained as a stone carver in Italy, Girandola’s practice has evolved toward three-dimensional drawings and paintings made from re-use materials. Whether sculpting with duct tape or discarded milk crates, the works of Joe Girandola attract our attention to minute details often overlooked in the corrupt rush of modern society.
